What is Slope Stabilization
Slope stabilization is all about making steep or unstable ground safe, secure, and resistant to movement. When a hillside starts to crack, slide, or show signs of erosion, it doesn’t just “fix itself.” Water, gravity, and weather keep working away at it—until something gives. Slope stabilization steps in before that happens.
Working with partnering engineers, geologists, and hands-on construction teams, slope stabilization reinforces the hillside so it stays exactly where it’s supposed to. That might mean installing soil nails to anchor the slope, adding shotcrete for extra surface support, building retaining structures, or improving drainage so water can’t undermine the ground from within.
At its core, slope stabilization protects people, property, and infrastructure from landslides and rockfall. Whether it’s a residential backyard or a massive mountainside above a highway, the goal is the same: create a long-lasting, rock-solid solution that keeps the slope stable and the area safe.
What causes slope failure?
Slope failure can occur due to heavy rainfall, poor drainage, seismic activity, human excavation, vegetation loss, or natural weathering of soil and rock. Often, it’s a mix of these factors that weakens the slope’s structure over time.

These walls are often used to stabilize and rebuild roadways at a reduced schedule and lower cost than other solutions.
Retaining Wall Rehabilitation
Aging retaining walls can fail for multiple reasons, including undermining, deterioration, and impacts by unstable ground. Rather than undergoing extensive and costly remove-and-replace projects, stabilizing and/or rehabilitating an existing wall can prolong its useful life and save the asset owner significant costs. GRW applies its specialized expertise in installing anchors and diverse facing elements to stabilize and protect these critical structures.
Roadway Stabilization & Buildouts
